PhD Student

Research Topics & Projects

Bacterial and Phage Genetics, Microbial Physiology, Regulation of Gene Expression, RNA Biology

Education

B. Tech. in Industrial Biotechnology, SASTRA University, India, 2013

M.S. in Microbiology, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, 2015

Preethi’s research work in the Vanderpool lab is focussed on understanding the functions and regulation of the small RNA DicF and small protein DicB encoded on the cryptic prophage Qin of Escherichia coli strain K12.

In addition to her expertise in identifying roles of prophage genes in the cell, Preethi is the lab expert in phage experiments, methods for keeping plants alive, and finding happy hour coffee deals.
